Millions know Glasperlenspiel. Do you?

ABB’s YuMi robot is featured in the latest high-tech video from one of Germany’s biggest pop bands.

One of the most exciting parts of exhibiting at a major trade fair is that you never know who’s going to come by your stand. Last year a producer from Universal Music Group & Brands, a leading music and media entertainment agency, stopped by the ABB stand at the SPS Drives in Nuremberg and saw ABB’s YuMi collaborative robot in action. They were intrigued about the possibility of including YuMi in one of their upcoming video projects.

Enter Glasperlenspiel – one of the hottest pop bands in Germany. The electropop duo of Carolin Niemczyk and Daniel Gruenberg have, in only four years, created four gold records, numerous honors and prizes, and attracted legions of fans. Its videos have over 75 million views in YouTube.

Glasperlenspiel, which literally translates to “the glass bead (‘marble’) game,” took their name from a novel by the German author Hermann Hesse, a winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Apart from the two protagonists, YuMi plays a representative role in Glasperlenspiel’s new futuristic music video “Forever” (“Für immer”), doing what it does best – precisely assembling small electronics while working closely with people. The video also features original footage from NASA space missions.

In addition to YouTube and other social media channels, the video – and YuMi – will also appear on Germany’s most important mainstream media such as ProSieben, Sat1, and RTL.

Curious about Glasperlenspiel? I bet you are! Watch the video and see – and hear – what all the excitement is about for yourself!
